The project "Research on Color Art and Scientific Applications Based on Design Discipline" of the "Double High" Plan for Humanities Construction at Tsinghua University, undertaken by the Color Research Institute of the Art and Science Research Center of Tsinghua University (hereinafter referred to as "Tsinghua Art and Science Color Research Institute"), has been successfully completed. The main person in charge of the project, Professor Song Wenwen from the Color Research Institute of Tsinghua University, stated that this project aims to establish a bridge between color art, design, and color science applications, and provide empirical methodology for design based on this foundation. It truly builds and improves the educational and design methods that integrate color art and science, and integrates them into the international color education system. The Tsinghua Color Research Institute team has accumulated research experience and, through the joint efforts of members of the research group such as Zhu Shiyang, Qiu Lixin, Yang Ziyuan, Zhang Yuanyuan, and Lin Jiawei, has achieved the project goals from both academic research and practical application, successfully concluding the project and receiving good praise.
 
 
 
[Background of the Project]
 
Color is not only a fundamental element in visual design, but also a key area where art and science intersect. In the rapidly developing field of design, the application of color is no longer limited to traditional aesthetic needs, but delves into multiple levels such as product design, brand image, and user experience, becoming an important factor in promoting innovation and enhancing value. After years of research, the Color Research Institute of Tsinghua University has explored the multidimensional application of color in the field of design by integrating the theories and technologies of color art and science. From the systematic construction of color theory to the development of digital tools, it not only deepens the academic understanding of color in design, but also provides more accurate and efficient color application solutions for designers and related industries.
 
[Project Advisory Team]
 
This research project invited renowned experts and scholars from the fields of design, art, psychology, imaging science, and industrial applications at home and abroad to jointly form a multidisciplinary expert advisory team. The team members include authoritative researchers in academia and senior practitioners in industry, who have profound theoretical knowledge and rich practical experience in their respective fields, providing comprehensive and unique insights for the project.
 
Book and Paper Publishing
 
The research results cover multiple research fields, demonstrating the team's profound accumulation and innovative exploration in color design and application. A total of 5 books and 15 papers have been published, which not only have theoretical depth but also practical value, providing important references for the development and industrial application of color science.
 
intellectual property right
 
The research results are not only reflected in the publication of books and papers, but also transformed into practical tools and methods through intellectual property rights. A total of 12 intellectual property rights have been applied for, covering multiple directions from color sentiment analysis to digital design tools. These intellectual property rights provide systematic theoretical support and innovative technical solutions for the field of color design and application, further promoting the transformation and application of academic achievements. These achievements not only reflect the high importance that the research group attaches to the combination of academia and practice, but also provide important technological reserves and innovation support for the industry.
 
Course Teaching and International Activities
 
The research group has also achieved significant results in course teaching, by participating in the teaching of multiple courses at Tsinghua University, integrating research results and cutting-edge knowledge into the classroom, and cultivating students' innovative thinking and practical abilities.
 
[Industrial Applications]
 
During the research process, the research team conducted a series of industrial application studies combining color, art, and science from different industries, including emotional tone image color matching research in collaboration with Huawei Terminal Co., Ltd., research on enhancing the high-end feel of automotive interiors in collaboration with Beijing New Energy Co., Ltd., color psychology analysis design and verification in collaboration with Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Ltd., and recyclable material color design in collaboration with Polymer (China) Co., Ltd. These studies not only deepen the interdisciplinary understanding of color from an academic perspective, but also provide practical guidance for related industries.
 
 
 
 
 
Through multidimensional research, practice, and promotion, the project has not only made significant progress in the theoretical construction and methodological innovation of color design, but also built a platform for sharing wisdom and resources between academia and industry through achievement transformation, curriculum teaching, and international exchanges. These efforts not only promote the integration and development of color science and art, but also contribute to the inheritance and innovation of Chinese color culture, as well as the integration into global color education platforms. In the future, the research team will continue to uphold the spirit of openness and cooperation, explore the infinite possibilities of color from a broader perspective, and bring more value to society and the design field.
